
Maree Montgomery is known as Australia’s ‘First Lady of Swing’ because of her style of performing and her recordings. A respected performer in a class of her own, her repertoire can cover styles of music from Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Buble, and Diana Krall to Natalie Cole and Nora Jones. Maree breathes life into popular songs with her unique and sultry Montgomery flavour.
Maree’s recordings have received nominations for Best Jazz Album for the ARIA Awards (Australian Record Industry Awards) and also her third album, “Sweet ‘n Hot” received an APRA nomination for Best Jazz Composition.
All of these recordings have also received international airplay throughout Europe and on the BBC in London.
Excellent reviews with critics describing her as “soft and sultry”, “jazzy and bluesy, both with pizzazz and sensitivity” and “the lady has some voice, red hot, cool and jazzy all at once – a knockout!!”
Maree is the person who recorded and performed the original song “Sydney, The Place to Be” to an audience of some 80,000 for the Sydney Olympic 2000 Celebrations. The song also received world airplay. Radio Station 2GB featured this song for their signature theme for 3 years.
She has performed in venues from the Sydney Opera House to The Basement Jazz Club, supper clubs in five star hotels and casinos to the Manly International Jazz Festival as well as the Sydney club circuit.
Maree can perform with her own select musicians from a duo/trio to a big band and also as a solo artist or compere. She is well known in the fashion world, having produced and compered major fashion shows.
Recently, she has returned from performing in India and China over a two year period in five star hotels and private concerts.
